What We Got In Common

In the game

Look to the sky

Yeah, yeah

Here we have the amazing John Batiste

Make sure you're confident

And the incredible Common

We live and we die

Look to the sky

You need to look to the sky

Lost and we found it

Uh-huh

Make sure you're confident

Yeah

You and me got soul

We got soul, brother

It's what we have in common

It's what we got in common

The sacred number's comin'

Yeah

It's time to live more life

Live more life

Here I am

Focus on what we got in common, y'all

We used to sit on some of the same blocks, similar struggle

Distributed some of the same rock, similar hustle

Doin' whatever so we could survive, breakin' the laws

The goal was to take care of mines, take care of yours

Despite the heart clean, the actions was foul, we rationalize it

The elders sat us down and talked to us, we'd analyze it

They protected us despite what we doin', yeah, they was patient

The convo was meaningful but it ain't change the situation

Torn between good and bad even when the pockets was full

I put the blunts out and escorted the

Elders home when they would pull up

Still doin' foul shit, home was racial, niggas was stressin'

But for the foul shit, we get spiritual baths for the protection

As a blessing and a lesson as an adolescent

Try to stabilize the future for the

Fam' before we go back to the essence

Positively, I want my family to feel my presence

Found my profession is talkin' truth in studio sessions

If you was guessin'

And havin' a conversation 'bout what

We got in common is kind of refreshin'

Yeah, it's not a game

Because we did a bunch of similar shit does not mean we are the same

I never compromise my integrity for the fame

You's a bozo, energy problematic, you's a little lame, mmh

Yeah, energy on for Thomas Lyon

See, we don't do that little killer vibe, nigga, let's not collide

Let's try to figure out what we do have in common

A peanut butter jelly sandwich, a little cup of ramen

This what we ate when we was broke

But my integrity shinin', masterminding

We always stood on business, be mindin'

Whenever we seek and destroy and define 'em and realign 'em

And squash whatever differences, homie, let's both surprise 'em

Guess what's on the horizon? Unifyin'

Comin' together 'cause there's nothin' else better, perfect timin'

We live and we die

Look to the sky

Lost and we found it

Uh-huh

Make sure you're confident

Yeah

You and me got soul

We got soul, brother

It's what we have in common

It's what we got in common

The sacred number's comin'

Yeah

It's time to live more life

Live more life

Here I am

Focus on what we got in common, y'all

The commonality of beasts is the alchemy

Malcolm in the Audubon, Martin on the balcony

Black reality, pay dues hourly

The chords of the Lord that power me

Out of the wilderness with the manna that is blessin' us

Blessed by the one who sent Moses on the Exodus

Movement of the people, teach you like it's seafood

Stay true to your nature 'til your maker meet you

Greet you with the kiss of life like I'm Sade

Mind on more than money, I'm God body

Locked into a prison of wisdom and realism

Buildin' like Caleb Williams with the field vision

Of a runaway, we gon' keep rockin' 'til the sun a day

Speakin' Heaven's language, hearin' what the jungle say

So when lions fall, we can bear it

The elephant in the room, these snakes is careless

The merit we inherit, the integrity of mega

When you do it for your people, it'll be here forever

Forever and ever and ever and ever

Why gamble with your life when I can make it better?

I bet like BET to show the Black experience

The projects, the poems, power, the pyramids

Made in the image, so I got a mirror here

Even when it's broke, in my heart is where the mirror live

We live and we die

So look to the sky

Let us look to the sky, y'all

Lost and we found it

Uh-huh

Make sure you're confident

Yeah

You and me got soul

We got soul, brother

It's what we have in common

It's what we got in common

The sacred number's comin'

Yeah

It's time to live more life

Live more life

Here I am

Focus on what we got in common, y'all

Yeah

Yeah

It's so important and it's so powerful

When we move as common men

Common goal

Common destiny

Common cause

It's what we got in common
